Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE)
Our Vision for PSHE
At St. John with St. Michael’s CE Primary School, PSHE plays a vital role in nurturing happy, healthy and confident children. Rooted in our Christian values, our PSHE curriculum supports pupils to develop a strong sense of self, respect for others and an understanding of their responsibilities within their community and the wider world.
Why PSHE Matters
PSHE equips children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to thrive both now and in the future. It supports pupils’ emotional wellbeing, helps them build positive relationships and prepares them to make informed, safe and responsible choices throughout their lives.
Through PSHE, pupils learn to:
-
Understand and manage their emotions
-
Build resilience and self-esteem
-
Develop empathy, kindness and respect
-
Keep themselves physically and mentally healthy
-
Prepare for life in modern Britain
Statutory Guidance and National Expectations
Our PSHE curriculum is aligned with statutory Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education guidance (DfE, 2020).
The curriculum supports pupils to:
-
Form positive, respectful relationships
-
Understand how to stay safe, both online and offline
-
Recognise the importance of mental and physical health
-

PSHE also contributes significantly to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and the promotion of British Values, including respect, tolerance, democracy and the rule of law.

-
Links to Worship and Values: PSHE is closely connected to collective worship and our Christian ethos.
PSHE in Our School Community
PSHE at St. John with St. Michael’s helps children to grow into thoughtful, compassionate individuals who value themselves and others. By developing emotional literacy, resilience and moral understanding, we prepare pupils to contribute positively to their families, school and society.
